Having more or less completed the posts on village lock-ups, I am now turning my attention towards oddities and interesting stories relating to law and order over the centuries. Punishment was harsh in the middle ages and transportation to the Colony's was common right up until the mid 19th century, whilst execution for capital crimes remained until well into the 20th century.
